The Office of Administration advises that the University Council has appointed Dr. Tomlin Paul as Deputy Principal of The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, with effect from August 1, 2023.
 

Dr. Paul will succeed Professor Ian Boxill, whose tenure as Deputy Principal began five years ago on August 1, 2018.  This transition is part of the evolving leadership structure at the Mona Campus, with Professor Dale Webber, the current Pro Vice-Chancellor and UWI, Mona Principal, set to pass the reigns of leadership at the end of July to Principal Designate, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Densil A. Williams to assume office on August 1.
 

Dr. Paul brings with him a wealth of experience in the areas of health professions’ education, public health, academic programme management, and quality assurance. His dedication to teaching, research, and public service has earned him numerous awards and honours over the years both for himself and for the institutions fortuitous enough to have his counsel.
 

Recently, he has been making significant contributions in Rwanda as the Dean of Research, Innovation & Quality at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), where he is also a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and Chair of the Educational Development and Quality Centre. Earlier this year, under his leadership and guidance, the UGHE was honoured with the Zairi International Award for Outstanding Not-for-Profit Contribution to the Community, the Gold Level QS Wharton Reimagine Education Awards in the category of The Power of Partnership and was ranked in the top ten in the inaugural Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Times Higher Education University Rankings, underscoring his expertise and commitment to excellence in education.
 

Dr. Paul is no stranger to the Mona Campus, having served as Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS), from August 2017 to July 2021 where he promoted a culture of student success and meaningful engagement. During his stewardship the Faculty of Medical Sciences received the ASPIRE-to-Excellence Award in Medical Education for Social Accountability in 2020 from the Association of Medical Education of Europe (AMEE) and his office received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence 2020/2021. Dr. Paul is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educator’s, UK and a member of the International Social Accountability and Accreditation Think Tank (ISAATT).
